Highlights
The Living Advent door for night #13 was the back door to the offices of Simmons & Son in Bell Street. Alexis Lane of sponsors of the Head Partnership Solicitors, deputising for Richard Rodway, welcomed through the door a choir of around 20 children from Gillotts school, to the terrace and make shift stage. A large audience had assembled on the lawn in the gardens which had again been illuminated so magically and festively by Hugh Legh. One of Henley’s hidden gems, the audience had to find their way through the grotto of trees to access the lawn where they were met by the hosts gazebo serving warm mulled wine and mince pies.
The night acted as a fundraiser for Bishopswood School in Sonning Common and headteacher Janet Kellet thanked the audience for their donation.
The children performed a set of festive classics such as Frosty the Snowman and Ding Dong Merrily on High. The children were joined in the singing by headteacher Catharine Darnton.
Sue Knox of partners for the evening Knox & Eames chartered accountants then assisted Miss Lane with the raffle, one of the prizes being a bottle of champagne donated by Knox & Eames, as well as more Kenton Panto tickets. Oh yes there was!
Day #14 will now see the event visit Henley College with a performance in the foyer of the main reception. Lawlors Bakery will be partnering, and they will be open at their premises round the corner at Empstead Works for sales of more festive baked treats. At 7.15pm, the Living Advent will also be joining festivities up the hill at the top of Greys Road, on the green in “The Close”, for a special “switch on” event.
Every evening Dec 1st - 24th, 6:15 to 6:45pm
