Highlights
Local musician and guitar tutor Nick Breakspear played an acoustic guitar set (and occasionally some kazoo!), amidst some Christmas lighting on the veranda of the pavilion at Henley Cricket Club on the 20th night of the Living Advent.
The Living Advent was visiting the Cricket club for the first time, and another large audience of over 100 people were treated to rock’n’roll versions of some contemporary classics and some festive tunes, ranging from Coldplay’s ‘Christmas Lights’ to ‘Fairytale of New York’ via ‘Silent Night’.
The kazoo was the latest random ‘instrument’ to be used in one of this year’s Living Advent performances. following the use of a Stylophone on night 9.
Chair Richard Rodway said “It’s great to be able to involve the Cricket Club as a venue. As soon as I became involved this year, I thought that it would make for a great spectacle, using the club house as a stage, and it was great to see that come to fruition. I’m grateful to the Club for letting us visit them, and hopefully we can come back next year”. “Nick’s music and style is very much ‘my cup of tea’ and it was great to see the audience react to his performance so enthusiastically. There was a really festive feel to the evening, and ending on ‘Fairytale of New York’ (my favourite Christmas song) left everyone in really good spirits at the end”.
The audience had been served pastries, sausage rolls, mulled wine and soft drinks on arrival by partners for the evening Ecocleen, who had made use of the expertise of partners from night 16 Lawlor’s the Bakers.
After the performance, Richard Rodway selected some festively attired children from the audience to help him with the raffle, with prizes kindly donated by the Cricket Club (garden parasol and champagne) and the River & Rowing Museum (a pass for a family for four).
Next up, it is on to d:two for night 21.
